About the holding status of Manchu and Chinese materials
Manchu and Chinese texts are a very useful source of historical research on Chinese linguistics. From the viewpoint of language contact, there is a great influence on each language. Chinese in the Qing dynasty is clearly influenced by the Manchu language, which is closely related to the formation of Mandarin. Manchu and Chinese materials are stored around the world, but their overall organization has not been done so far. This time, I would like to organize the basics of the collection of the main Manchu and Chinese materials in Japan and abroad and make it available to researchers.中谷伸生教授古稀記念
Peripheral approach on Chinese Linguistics as a area of Cultural Interaction Studies
Depending upon the base upon which one respectively stands, in other words, depending upon one’s area or field of specialization, different answers are possible to the question “What is Cultural Negotiation Science?” And yet they all share a fundamental methodology, which is an “approach from the periphery”. This paper considers the relation between that “periphery” and the “center” from the standpoint of Chinese linguistics, it attempts to examine the content of the correlation between the “individual” and the “common”, or the “special” and the “universal”, concepts that are connected to that relationship between the “periphery” and “center”, and it searches for the possibilities in and the effectiveness of that method
Rare books about Masuzawa Bunko Collection of CSAC
Last year, Center of Studies of Asian cultures (CSAC) created Masuzawa Bunko. Masuzawa Akiko that is sometime professor in Japan University and he presented his collection which comprises about 10,000 volumes for our Center. There are many rarely books about History of Education in Modern Chines. This time I would like to introduce some rarely books in Masuzawa Bunko, in addition to provide a research chance for our readers,東アジアの言語と表象文部科学省グローバルCOEプログラム 関西大学文化交渉学教育研究拠
A New Test for the Absorption Mechanism of GPS Radio Sources Using Polarization Properties
We consider the use of polarization properties as a means to discriminate
between Synchrotron Self-Absorption (SSA) and Free--Free Absorption (FFA) in
GHz-Peaked Spectrum (GPS) sources. The polarization position angle (PA) of
synchrotron radiation at high frequencies for the optically thin regime is
perpendicular to the magnetic field, whereas it is parallel to the magnetic
field at low frequencies for the optically thick regime. Therefore, SSA
produces a change in PA of across the spectral peak, while FFA
does not result in such a change. We analyzed polarization data from VLA
observations for six GPS sources to see if such a change in PA was present. Our
results indicate that there is no significant evidence for change
in PA across the spectral peak, suggesting that FFA is more likely than SSA for
low-frequency cutoffs in these sources
Notes on Yanfu’s 《English Grammar Explained in Chinese》
There is almost no research on Yan Fu\u27s English Grammar Explained in Chinese until now. In this paper, I would like to consider elementary about the process of completing that book, the English grammar which it made origin, and concrete contents.\n有关严复的研究很多, 但是关于他的《英文汉诂》的研究看来不多。这里我将进行对干《英文汉诂》的初步的探讨
